MUSIC REVIEWS

Hello all,

This is the first time I´m writing to you, so I thought about giving a quick presentation. But then I would have to say all about my background in music, and that would take too much of my space here…and then I would have to talk about Duran duran, and of course it would seem a huge self promotion.

So, instead, I encourage you to check ***.duranduran.com, or to buy our new record Red Carpet Massacre, and see for yourself what I´ve been doing in my music life.

When I started to write this article I really didn´t knew who I was going to review…I looked for a lot of bands, and even thought about giving the review for the new Judas Priest album, but then, on the tv, they were talkin about Scarllet Johansson´s new album…so…

Anywhere I lay my head – Scarlett Johansson

Well, it seem that evrybody is talking about it and I´m really having the impression that is only because Miss Johansson has benn on spot for a while now…

She said that this album is not a intention to start a singing career, but to make just a experience, making a old dream come true. Well, thank God Scarlett is successful in movies. She can´t live of her singing.

First I listened to her vocals in Falling Down and I must say that it really didn´t inspired me, she is not a bad singer, but she lacks that emotional interpretation that is required for someone to sing. And we are talking about a actress! Her vocals actually reminded me of a singer called Billie Meyers (look for her 1997 hit Kiss the Rain), but with much less feeling into it. I would say that Scarlett Johansson could never appear in a musical, only if it´s a futuristic musical and she´s a robot that sings.

And then I came back to the first track, to listen to the album as a whole, and what was my surprise to see that all the songs…are the same! Musically, thou, it´s very interesting. The melodies construction were involved in samplers and synths – which is of course familiar to me – in a form to build a atmosphere of someone lost in a mushroom forest. Yes, those ones. But not even that makes the album appealing to me.

Maybe Scarlett Johansson could start thinking in changing her pitch, and come back to use that same ton of voice she used in “summertime”, from Lost in Translation soundtrack. Of course she sounded like she was trying to imitate Norah Jones, but that´s a lot better than being C3Po.

Whether you’re attending a new school or looking for a date, meeting people can be awkward and challenging. However, it doesn’t have to be so hard. Try a few of these simple tips, and you’ll be on your way in no time.

You can volunteer in your school, community or church. Many teens clean up parks, tutor younger students or help at food pantries, animal shelters or hospitals. Nonprofit organizations always need volunteers as well: Find out if Habitat for Humanity, the Sierra Club, the Red Cross and other nonprofit groups have chapters near where you live. Chances are, you’ll find other teens—and nice people of all ages—volunteering their time.
6. Laugh
Letting others know that you think they’re funny makes them feel good and shows them you’re interested in what they think. It also shows you have a good sense of humor, which is one of the top things teens look for in a person, whether it’s a best friend or a boyfriend or girlfriend.

Now.. i shall give you some advice on MAKE-UP!!!
The Beach Babe

Now that summer has arrived, it’s time to turn yourself into a bronzed beauty! Of course it’s healthy to go into the sun from time to time (sunshine helps your body create vitamin D, which studies are showing can help prevent breast cancer!)- but if you fry outside all day, you’ll get a nasty burn and possibly skin cancer. That’s why makeup rocks- you can use it to achieve the sunny, natural glow you’ve always wanted without any of the negative side effects! This look is all about bringing the worlds hottest beaches- Miami, Rio and the Cote d’Azure- to your backyard…

Self Tanner- I know you might be afraid of self tanner, but don’t be! With care, it can help you achieve a pretty, natural glow. The first thing you need to do is plan in advance which day you want to look golden. Then, the morning before, gently exfoliate your face with a cleanser designed to remove dead skin cells and a facecloth. Follow with moisturizer. Then, on the morning you plan to tan (the tan won’t appear for approximately four hours after application), wash and moisturize your face as usual. We do all this scrubbing/moisturizing so that the tanner won’t catch on any little “clumps” of skin. Next, grab your tanner. You’ll want to use a formula labelled “light” or “medium” to begin with- starting with a “dark” formula is just a recipe for fake, orange tans. Then, mix some of the tanner with a gentle moisturizer on your hands, and rub it all over your face. Be careful to avoid your hairline and eyebrows (and of course, eyes), because when the tanner gets trapped in the hairs, it can turn the nearby a nasty yellowish color. Make sure you blend carefully around your neck so there are no harsh lines. Wait for about ten minutes, then go about your daily routine and wait for your tan to appear!
Bronzer- Pump up your tan even more with a cream or gel bronzer. They’ll both let your skins natural beauty shine through- look for a non-shimmery formula that’s either a gel or cream. If you have really oily skin, you can try a bronzing powder to absorb the shine. Apply it anywhere the sun would naturally hit, and build the colour up slowly.
Eye Shadow- Find a shimmery, neutral shade that’s just a bit darker than your skin, and smudge over the eye area. Suggested shades are gold, copper or mocha.
Mascara- If you’re going to be hitting the beach, just use some clear mascara. But if you’re staying away from water, try a dark brown or black shade in a defining formula, to make your lashes look naturally gorgeous!
Lip Gloss- Look for a shimmery shade in a color similar to your eyeshadow. For the ultimate cool look, try a 2-in-1 pencil and use the same product on your eyes and lips!

The Classic Beauty

As you all probably know, this fall’s biggest trend is going to be lady-like chic. Everything tailored, elegant and womanly will be in style again! This looks doesn’t require superior genetics or even a superior hand- anyone can turn themselves into a modern day Catherine Deneuve! I guarantee that if you apply your makeup in this style and pull on a gorgeous houndstooth skirt, you’ll feel more feminine than ever before!

Foundation- Go with a sheer formula, and smooth at all over your skin.
Concealer- Use it meticulously to cover all flaws. Lightly dab onto your eyelid (it’s going to affix the shadow later). Skip powder for this look- let your skins “natural” texture show through!
Eyeshadow- Look for a natural peach shade that’s on the deeper side. You’re doing a modern smoky eye. Finger-smudge the shadow across your upper lid, then carefully apply it to the lower lid using a slant-edge brush (for a more precise look, dampen the brush and apply the shadow like a liner to your lower lid).
Mascara- Use a good dose of black thickening mascara on your upper lashes. For even more ooomph, try a pair of false lashes, or glue several individual false lashes to the outer half of your upper eyelid.
Blush- If you’ve got warm coloring, brush on a peachy blush to the apples of your cheeks. If you’re more of a cool girl, try using a little bit of bronzer.
Lipstick- Instead of using lipliner, use a lipstick brush to apply a careful coat of pinky-peach, creme or frost lipstick to your lips.

The Secret Agent Girl

Are you packing a water gun under that black trench coat, or do you have a mini video camera hooked up to your rhinestone Chloe shades? If you answered neither, you can still dress like a secret agent and have the makeup to match. Since you’ll be on the prowl at night, this look is about dark eyes and deep lips- stuff that will turn (enemy) heads. This look is mature, exciting and dangerous!

Foundation- Smooth it all over your skin.
Concealer- Apply to any imperfections, focusing on undereye circles. You won’t want dark bags under your eyes when you’re wearing dark eyemakeup!
Eye Liner- Use black liquid liner to line above your eyes, doubling the thickness of the line by the time you’ve reached the outer corner. Then, take a sharp black pencil and line the outer half of your lower eyelid.
Eye Shadow- Use a black eyeshadow and dampened sponge to go over the liner on your upper lid with shadow. Then, take black glitter (it’s hard to find, but very cool!) and apply a tiny bit to the outer corner of your eyelids, above the crease.
Lip Liner- Line your lips in a neutral pencil that is slightly darker than your natural lipcolor (suggest shade names include Browns and Raisins). The liner is important to keep the dark lipstick in place.
Lip Stick- Here’s the fun part. Look for a shade like blackberry or plum in a cream formula. If you’ve got darker skin, try a deep fudgey color. Fill in your entire mouth with the shade, covering the lipliner. Or, if you want a different version of this look, skip the lipliner and mix the dark lipstick with some clear gloss for a less dramatic mouth!  – joeytay11
